How to Launch a Clinic Like Maddie’s Place

“Is there a Maddie’s Place near me?”

Hands down, this is the most frequently asked question we hear. We’ve answered it more times than we can count. And every time, our answer is the same: “Unfortunately, there are only 4 other facilities similar to ours in the country that we know of: 1 in OH, 1 in WV, and 2 in AZ. We want to help pave the way for more one day!”

While our answer has never changed, momentum has sparked behind the scenes.

Because with that question came another in a similar vein: “How can I open up a Maddie’s Place in my community?”

This was not a common question when we first opened our doors. Very few knew about our new organization. But as time went on, and more people witnessed the life-changing work we do at Maddie’s Place, more people wanted to personally get in contact with us to learn everything they needed to know about opening a clinic like ours.

At first, we planned to respond to interested individuals. one at a time. But as the messages piled up, we realized that this was bigger than a few email responses.

Momentum first started growing when former Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington State introduced “the MIRACLE Act” (Maddie’s Infant Recovery and Children’s Legislative Emergency) to Congress. If passed, the MIRACLE Act would require the Secretary of Health and Human Services to conduct a study on the prevalence of NAS (Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome) to provide states with the data they need to protect the well-being of infants and caregivers across the country. With this data, state officials would be more likely to open facilities like Maddie’s Place everywhere and ensure they have the funds to do so. We are now anxiously awaiting the next legislative session where the MIRACLE Act will be considered.

Momentum also has been growing with our ongoing efforts to establish sustainable funding. Our team has been tirelessly advocating for our services to be covered by Medicaid. If we are reimbursed for our services, we would have the means for expansion.

And so, with all of this growing momentum and piqued interest from individuals across the world, we decided to launch a 9-part webinar series called, “From Vision to Vitality: How to Launch a Clinic Like Maddie’s Place.”

We hosted the first webinar about a month ago. With 300+ registrants and just over 100 attendees, we engaged in an exciting and insightful conversation, discussing the birth of our organization and our vision for the future. During the second webinar, we talked about assessing community needs and potential partnerships.

Both webinars sparked a high level of engagement and questions from participants. The enthusiasm was undeniable. People were seeing the desperate need for services like ours everywhere– and now they want change. We want to see “Maddie’s Place” everywhere! Every newborn exposed to substances should have access to this non-pharmacological approach to healing. Every mom or dad struggling with their addiction should have access to the resources they need to get back on their feet and be a parent to their child.

And that’s why we will keep fighting. That’s why we will keep building momentum and spreading awareness. Innocent lives are at stake. Will you join us in the fight?
