Recovery, Healing, and Communities of Hope

When we say we are “creating Communities of Hope,” we mean it.

Continually taking intentional steps to pour into our Maddie’s Place families through support, encouragement, celebration, and action.

Recovery is not meant to happen alone. Healing happens in community — through people who show up, speak life, and remind one another that every step forward matters. At Maddie’s Place, we believe every milestone deserves to be recognized, and every individual deserves to feel supported throughout their recovery journey.

If you have been following our mission for any length of time, you have likely seen that we host a monthly Recovery Coin Night for our alumni families and the Spokane recovery community. These evenings have become more than a gathering; they have become a space where hope is restored, victories are celebrated, and lives are continually being rebuilt.

Each month, we have the privilege of reminding individuals that no matter where they are in their recovery journey, they are not walking alone. Whether someone is celebrating 24 hours, 30 days, or multiple years of sobriety, each clean-time coin represents strength, resilience, perseverance, and courage. Behind every coin is a story of choosing to keep going even when the road has been difficult.

One of the most meaningful parts of these nights is the community that surrounds each person being celebrated. Families, peers, volunteers, and supporters come together to cheer one another on and create an atmosphere filled with compassion and belonging. Recovery flourishes when people feel seen, valued, and connected.

Our incredible volunteers help make these nights possible by preparing and serving meals for everyone who attends. Their willingness to serve is a powerful reminder that care and compassion can take many forms — sometimes it looks like encouragement, and sometimes it looks like simply sharing a meal together around a table.

We are also deeply grateful for the support of the Alano Club in Spokane, Washington, for providing a welcoming space for us to host these celebrations each month. Their partnership allows us to continue creating a safe and supportive environment for individuals and families in recovery.

Recently, we have also begun a new tradition of filming and creating content with those receiving clean-time coins each month. These moments create lasting and tangible memories not only for the individuals being celebrated, but also for our broader community of supporters who continue to walk alongside us.

Sharing these stories allows others to witness the reality that recovery is possible, recovery is happening, and hope is alive.
